No travelling today as last night hubs and I decided to celebrate new year's eve by drinking responsibly at home. Pretty interesting that the new moon is on the 1st day of the year. This happens every 19 years. It also means that there will be a new moon on Yule.

Today is also Lunar Yule, the new moon closest to Solar Yule.

When I was a kid in school, I was always left out of birthday parties and holiday celebrations. While the other kids would participate in the costume parade, I and other Jehovah's Witness children would be stuck in the library. It was never a lot of us; some parents had the decency to just keep their kids home. Since I was poor, I only got new clothes the beginning of the year. Nothing new for Christmas. So my fantasy was that my family didn't have to wait until birthdays or Christmas to buy presents; we got presents all year round. Yeah right.

I was really smart too. I was offered a position on the student government. But noooo, since JWs don't participate in government, I had to decline that. I wonder how different my life would have been if I had been allowed to participate in activities that other kids got to do - sports, band, dance team, prom.

And to top it off, I'm the fat sister. Yeah, I used to blame the Universe. Why did I have to be the fat one? I'm clearly not my mother's favorite either. I feel like I'm truly forgotten. My mother hasn't called or visited me in forever (but she calls my son).

BUT had I not gone through all these things, I would not be the me that I am now. I wonder if I would have ever found my true spiritual path?

I can't afford to travel so going to an ethnic restaurant will have to do. My husband said he visited an Ethiopian restaurant some years ago. We are thinking of trying to find one for his birthday dinner.

None of us are perfect. This moon is the time to reflect on our negative traits. Don't feel bad about them. Use them to your advantage. After all, you wouldn't be you without good and bad. New moons are always for "me-time", a period of reflection and contemplation. Throw your moral compass away metaphorically. If you have a trusted companion that you can explore your dark side with, that's even better. Remember, though, to be safe, sane, and always get consent.

My vision board was completed today. It feels good to accomplish things on my to-do list. My habit of procrastinating has been getting the best of me but I'm really trying to do better. Still behind on the Pagan Blog Project but determined to catch up before the end of the year. Getting back into my daily chanting. Gave myself a lunar month challenge; this month has 29 days.

As a solitary witch, all of my work is done alone anyway. It would be nice to work with others though.

Well now - I can concentrate more since it's nice and cool after installing the new AC system. Been in this house for 3 yrs and have had just as many major purchases. I guess this is part of the joys of homeownership.

I'm watching the annular solar eclipse online since I'm here in Denmark. An amateur astronomer was nice enough to broadcast live from near Area 51 in Nevada. I was watching a feed from Japan but it was cloudy. So I actually got to see the eclipse twice :)

I never was a nature buff; I'm more into astronomy and science. Yes, I do think of the Moon as female. Trying to get use to listening to the Universe.

I took to a trip to Turning Wheel in Bel Air to get a scent for my money spell. The owner suggested patchouli - or any earthy scent - which smells so good. I prefer the oil to the herb but I want to make my own oils eventually. There was a flower vase or candle holder that had Westies on it. I couldn't resist!

When doing a spell, you have to follow it up with work in the real world. As a condition of unemployment benefits, I have to apply to at least 2 jobs weekly. The Goddess will send me what I need as long as I do my part.

Over a calendar month ago, I lost my job. I thought about looking for a new job this moonth but decided to take  some more time off. Tonight's ritual was about introspection. I used my father's favorite foods for the cake and ale portion and played a CD with drumming music.

New Moon Uposatha - my (re)dedication to the Goddess

Today is the day that I've decided to dedicate myself to my new spiritual path. A little over a year ago, I went to my first Buddhist meeting. A very short time after that, I started exploring Wicca and other religions. I have come Home. I realized this some time ago but I have been reluctant to commit. On the one hand, one's spirituality is personal and private. On the other hand, it's nice to exchange ideas with like-minded individuals. I attended International Pagan Coming Out Day with a Facebook group. I sent my mother a card with some information in it about Buddhism and Paganism. My kids know that I know no longer identify with Christianity. My husband has always been supportive throughout my journey.

So today is the day that I accept this fact. Why today? Well, it's the new moon, the first of the month, and Wednesday. I was born on a Wednesday so it almost seems fitting that today is *the* day. I have no idea of the specifics of my ritual. I said a small prayer at the exact time of the partial eclipse with the rest of my ritual to be performed later. I do what I feel in my heart to do. Maybe it will be just lighting some candles and sitting quietly.

I've been struggling with the fact that previously I dedicated myself to Jehovah and was baptized as a Jehovah's Witness in 1992. I was serious at the time, as serious as a teenager could be. Is my Christian dedication and baptizm negated? I thought about this and as I believe that the Goddess and God are one, my dedication is still valid. The baptism is irrelevent. So I guess my ritual is more of a re-dedication, a step that I'm taking with no pressure from my mother or from an organization. My free will. I'm happy to do it.

Oh, I don't have craft name / magical name yet. I thought of one but I'll let the Goddess guide me.

New Year, New Moon

Today is the first new moon of the new year, the first Uposatha. For those who made new year's resolutions, are you still on track? Why not make smaller goals? Track your progress over a week or month instead of a year. My goal is to start walking again. Now that Yule has passed, the days are starting to get longer. It's not pitch black by the time I go on my lunch break.

The new moon is a time of reflection, of starting new goals. State your goals in a positive manner. Say "I will start taking the stairs" instead of "I will stop using the elevator".
