Gypsy's Moon

Geb's Day, Shef Bedet 1
Metonic Lunation 224
Mayan Tzolk'in - 3 Cib
Dreamspell - Blue Spectral Night

Yuletide - Day 13
Kwanzaa - Day 7, Imani (Faith)

I-Ching 9 - Taming Power of the Small (Wind over Heaven)

New Moon in sidereal Sagittarius

On the Gypsy Moon, we go outside our homes and experience new cultures. Ideally, we should be experiencing cultures that stretch our ability to accept, that force us to confront ourselves and our own biases. It's best if a good deal of actual travel was involved, because the travel provides a buffer before and after for contemplation. Don't succumb to the temptation to just read about something - actually go breathe air you've never breathe, on ground you've never put your feet on. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

No travelling today as last night hubs and I decided to celebrate new year's eve by drinking responsibly at home. Pretty interesting that the new moon is on the 1st day of the year. This happens every 19 years. It also means that there will be a new moon on Yule.

Today is also Lunar Yule, the new moon closest to Solar Yule.

Mountain Climber's Moon

Hathor's Day, Ka Her Ka 5
Metonic Lunation 223
Mayan Tzolk'in - 3 Oc (White Electric Dog) - Kin 250
Dreamspell - Red Spectral Earth (11 Caban) - Kin 37

Waxing Crescent in sidereal Capricorn

On the Mountain Climber's Moon, we attempt the impossible...or at the very least the dauntingly difficult. It's especially useful to try something that you have avoided because you were told that you, or the sort of person that people assume you are, would just never be able to handle that. Whatever you do, do it without help. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Raging Moon

Isis' Day, Ka Her Ka 1
Metonic Lunation 223
Mayan Tzolk'in - 12 Cimi (White Crystal Worldbridger) - Kin 246
Dreamspell - Red Resonant Skywalker (7 Ben) - Kin 33

New Moon in sidereal Scorpio

The Raging Moon is one of the best times for shadow work, that task of going down into one's psychological cellar and learning to love the most unacceptable part of oneself for what it is, with no attempts to change it. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Pagan Blog Project - L is for Lunar sabbats

I was posting in one of my Facebook groups about the upcoming sabbat Samhain. A member said that she celebrates the lunar sabbat, in this case on the new moon closest to the solar sabbat. The term lunar sabbat seems to be an oxymoron. Sabbats refer to the days that divide the year (solar) into 8 equal parts and esbats are the divisions of the month (lunar) also known as the lunar phases. I suppose a lunar sabbat technically occurs when there is a lunar phase on the same night. I'm not sure how often that occurs.

Perhaps the sabbat can be celebrated on the closest corresponding esbat. With new moon = Yule, waxing crescent = Imbolc, etc., one can add sabbat themes to the lunar celebrations. By my calculations, lunar Samhain is Oct 30th and (solar) Samhain is Nov 6.

Friendship Moon

On the Friendship Moon, we hang out with our friends. You can sit around and talk about what what friendship means to you and society but it's probably a lot more fun just to spend time with people you like and care about. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera

Dryad's Moon

Sekmet's Day, Hent Hety 1
Metonic Lunation 217
Mayan Tzolk'in - 4 Muluc (Red Self-Existing Moon) - Kin 69
Dreamspell - Yellow Crystal Warrior (12 Cib) - Kin 116

New Moon in Sidereal Taurus

During the Dryad's Moon, we struggle with our relationship to Nature, and especially to the Green World. This includes our relationship to the food we put into ourselves (and the ecosystem that may have been destroyed to grow it)...It may also lead to an exploration of our relationship to "inanimate" objects of all kinds. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Infant's Moon

New Moon in sidereal Aries
Annular (ring of fire) solar eclipse

On the Infant's Moon, we begin things. That's what it's for. It is the Fool card of the Tarot deck, blithely stepping off the cliff with unquenchable faith in the Universe's benevolence...The Infant hasn't been hurt yet; he suckles needily trusting that it will be there again in an hour when he is hungry, and again, and again. We can't imagine that far back but we can imagine it. Or rather we need to be able to imagine it if only for a few minutes. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

The new moon is always for beginning things. I will begin posting on my blog more regularly and visiting the blogs that I'm subscribed to.

Did you set any goals this moonth?

Queen's Moon

Thoth's Day, Rehk Wer 17
Metonic Lunation 213
Mayan Tzolk'in - 5 Cimi (White Overtone World-Bridger)
Dreamspell - Red Cosmic Skywalker (13 Ben)

Full Moon in sidereal Leo

On the Queen's Moon, we take charge of a situation. It's a day for leadership. If leadership isn't your thing, do something nice for a woman who is in a position of leadership and power in the outside world and whom you respect. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Mercenary's Moon

Set's day, Rekh Wer 13
Metonic Lunation 213
Mayan Tzolk'in - 1 Ik (White Magnetic Wind)
Dreamspell - Red Solar Moon (9 Muluc)

Waxing Gibbous in sidereal Gemini

On the Mercenary's Moon we learn to edit our communication. While this may reek of censorship to some, anyone who has ever had to polish the rough draft of a paper knows how useful it is. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

This is struggle for me as I write my blog. I mean, it's my blog, right? But no, I don't type everything that pops in my head. Sometimes a rewrite is necessary.

Do you write what's on your mind or do you hold back?

Mermaid Moon

Hathor's Day, Rekh Wer 5
Metonic Lunation 213
Mayan Tzolk'in - 17 Pax (White Rhythmic Wizard)
Dreamspell - Red Magnetic Dragon (1 Imix)

On the Mermaid Moon, we explore our internal fantasies. Could you dedicate a whole day to daydreaming? If not, perhaps dedicating it to reading fantasy novels would be a better thing. Escapist movies will work too. Ask yourself though: ...What pulls you back to the mundane world; what are your anchors there? Remember to eat and take care of physical needs. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Waxing Crescent in sidereal Pisces

How I wish I could daydream all day! I'll probably read a book. I'm in the middle of several. Two of them are The Lost World and The Shining. I'm still trying to find The Mayan Codex as my library only has the 1st in the AntiChrist Trilogy.

Do you like the fantasy genre? What are your favorite movies or novels?

Forgotten One's Moon

Isis' Day, Rekh Wer 1
Metonic Lunation 213
Mayan Tzolk'in - 2 Oc (White Lunar Dog)
Dreamspell - Red Planetary Earth (10 Caban)

New Moon in Sidereal Capricorn

On the Forgotten Moon we remember our early experiences of being left out and the feelings and fantasies that we used to tide us over during that painful time. We look at the ambitions that may have been stunted or set aside because of early trauma and we reexamine them...We also confront our feeling about the unfairness of the Universe. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

When I was a kid in school, I was always left out of birthday parties and holiday celebrations. While the other kids would participate in the costume parade, I and other Jehovah's Witness children would be stuck in the library. It was never a lot of us; some parents had the decency to just keep their kids home. Since I was poor, I only got new clothes the beginning of the year. Nothing new for Christmas. So my fantasy was that my family didn't have to wait until birthdays or Christmas to buy presents; we got presents all year round. Yeah right.

I was really smart too. I was offered a position on the student government. But noooo, since JWs don't participate in government, I had to decline that. I wonder how different my life would have been if I had been allowed to participate in activities that other kids got to do - sports, band, dance team, prom.

And to top it off, I'm the fat sister. Yeah, I used to blame the Universe. Why did I have to be the fat one? I'm clearly not my mother's favorite either. I feel like I'm truly forgotten. My mother hasn't called or visited me in forever (but she calls my son).

BUT had I not gone through all these things, I would not be the me that I am now. I wonder if I would have ever found my true spiritual path?

Judge's Moon

Sekmet's Day, Shef-Bedet 24
Metonic Lunation 212
Mayan Tzolk'in - 9 Kan
Dreamspell - Blue Self-Existing Monkey

3rd quarter in sidereal Libra

On the Judge's Moon, we consider what we really think about people and all the way we judge them. We also think about what we believe to be fair and how much of that is influenced by our feelings. The point is not to deny the latter but to be aware of them; Moon work is all about being calmly aware of your emotions before you, well, judge them to be in need of changing or locking up. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Gypsy Moon

Ra's Day, Shef-Bedet 1
Metonic Lunation 212
Mayan Tzolk'in - 12 Imix
Dreamspell - Yellow Resonant Star

New Moon in sidereal Sagittarius

On the Gypsy Moon, we go outside our homes and experience new cultures. Ideally, we should be experiencing cultures that stretch our ability to accept, that force us to confront ourselves and our own biases. It's best if a good deal of actual travel was involved, because the travel provides a buffer before and after for contemplation. Don't succumb to the temptation to just read about something - actually go breathe air you've never breathe, on ground you've never put your feet on. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

I can't afford to travel so going to an ethnic restaurant will have to do. My husband said he visited an Ethiopian restaurant some years ago. We are thinking of trying to find one for his birthday dinner.

What culture would you like to experience one day?

Phoenix Moon

Geb's Day, Ka Her Ka 28
Metonic Lunation 211
Mayan Tzolk'in - 9 Etznab
Dreamspell - Red Self-Existing Serpent

Waning Crescent in sidereal Scorpio

On the Phoenix Moon, our direction will differ depending on what we've experienced in our lives. If we've had to live that death-and-rebirth - not just a hard change but a transformation that forced us to recreate our entire identity - we think about that change and find gratitude for the new direction it took us in. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

I'm still unemployed after almost a year. It would have been nice to go back to the old job so that I can keep my seniority but I guess it's not in the stars. The rebirth phase is ongoing or shall I say hasn't happened yet. If I hadn't lost my job, I wouldn't have rescued Samus. She's such a sweet little dog and I can't imagine being without her even though she is a tad smothering.

What deaths/rebirths have you experienced?

Raging Moon

New moon in Scorpio

On raging moon, we deal with all of our irrational desires and selfishness, all the parts of ourselves that we were taught to repress as early as kindergarten...The raging moon is the best time for shadow work, that task of going into one's psychological cellar and learning to love the most unacceptable parts of oneself for what it is, with no attempts to change it. Healing is not the point here. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

None of us are perfect. This moon is the time to reflect on our negative traits. Don't feel bad about them. Use them to your advantage. After all, you wouldn't be you without good and bad. New moons are always for "me-time", a period of reflection and contemplation. Throw your moral compass away metaphorically. If you have a trusted companion that you can explore your dark side with, that's even better. Remember, though, to be safe, sane, and always get consent.

Earth Mother's Moon

Geb's Day

Full Moon in sidereal Taurus
Penumbral lunar eclipse

On the Taurus Full Moon, we take care of our bodies and the bodily needs of others. Don't try to shift the focus to emotional needs - those are important, but the physical must come first or all else will suffer...Are you eating healthy? Is there medical care that you need and aren't seeking? Are you getting enough sleep?...Are you getting enough hugs and regular body contact or are you suffering from skin hunger? - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Guilty, guilty, guilty as charged. If you are a parent, you are most likely guilty of not taking care of your physical needs and health like you should. My health has been on the decline for some time now. Hopefully, I can find a doctor who will treat me to my satisfaction. Yes, I'm overweight. But instead of saying to me, "All you gotta do is exercise", how about treating why I'm tired all the time?

Not only is my tiredness affecting my everyday life but my magical life is suffering. Practicing magic takes energy. Witches look to the mundane or everyday world first to solve problems. When that doesn't (appear to) work or when the mundane issue could use a boost, magic is employed. I haven't done a full-fledged ritual in months. Not that my Goddess expects me to. I want to do it; being a solitary makes it that much more important.

The penumbral eclipse will take place today from 7:17 am - 11:49 am EST. Although not visible in my area due to setting at 7 am, I will try to find a live stream. I believe that eclipses are times to harness great energy due to the almost perfect alignment of the sun, earth, and moon - what I call the Great Triple Goddess.

Have you been neglecting your physical health? Is it affecting your spiritual practice?

Poet's Moon

Ra's Day

Waxing Gibbous in sidereal Pisces

On the Poet's Moon, we read the poetry that moves us, especially aloud in a group so that a variety of people can hear it. If you write poetry yourself, this is a good time to do it...and a good time to work on figuring out how to best open yourself to the Voice of the Universe. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

I haven't written poetry in such a long time. Perhaps because I haven't been inspired to do so. During one of my church's Open Mic nights, I read Phenomenal Woman by Maya Angelou. Such a great poem! Another one of my favorite poems is love is thicker than forget by e. e. cummings. His poems are kind of weird and he makes use of formatting in strange ways.

One of the last poems I wrote was answered in kind by my husband. I won't reproduce them here because the content of both poems are very explicit. I told hubs that we should write and self-publish a poetry book together.

So I need to figure out what moves me, what inspires me. A clean house for sure. I cannot think in a mess.

Do you like to read or write poetry? If so, who is your favorite poet? Feel free to post your own poem in the comments.

Rebel's Moon

Geb's Day
Het-Hert 8

1st Quarter in sidereal Aquarius

On the Rebel Moon, we take social structures to task. This is the best time of all for activism. Even if there is no cause that makes you burn or that you'd burn for, there is certain to be some injustice that you would like to see cleared away, and no matter what it is, other people are probably already working for that. Put your back, not just your words or money into the cause. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

Warrior's Moon

Sekmet's Day

Full moon in sidereal Aries

On the Warrior's Moon, we fight for what we believe in. This is a lone battle, and it is especially effective if we are fighting with no approval from others...[This] is also a time of...learning patience. - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

How appropriate for today! Right now the East Coast is battling with Hurricane Sandy. Everything is just about closed. My electricity is still working for right now so I want to get this post in. I had 2 dreams last night where I was fighting. In the first one it was with my sister; in the second one it was with my mother. As you know, I haven't had any meaningful conversations with them in a long time. Still a struggle being pretty much an only child and orphan while family is still alive.

I believe in my spirituality. Health issues are keeping me from doing as much as I want to do. Absolutely positive that Christianity is not for me. I look forward to celebrating public and family holidays. Since most of the world is Christian, Paganism is a religion that lot of folks are "scared" of. They point to all the scriptures that denounce witches, demons, magic, and spiritistic practices. I don't proselytize but I'll gladly answer any questions related to my path or Paganism in general.

Now that I'm registered to vote, I believe in voting for the candidate that best aligns with your views. I believe in being educated as much as possible about the election process. Yes, there's almost no change of 3rd party candidate winning the presidential election due to the electoral college. True sports fans still cheer for their team even when odds are against them.

What are things that you believe in that go against societal norms?

Maiden's Moon

Sekmet's Day
LuniSol - Moonth 11, Day 19
Metonic - Year 13, Lunation 209, Day 1
Dreamspell - Yellow Planetary Sun (10 Ahau) - Kin 140
Mayan Tzolk'in - 2 Ben (Red Lunar Skywalker) - Kin 93
Mayan Ha'ab - 16 Yax

New Moon in sidereal Virgo
Kemetic Month - Menhet

On the Maiden's Moon, we go alone to a beautiful place and work on being at ease without the presence of our fellow humans...It's a good time for solitary work but an even better time for quietly observing beauty and "sitting with time." - Moon Phase Astrology by Raven Kaldera.

My vision board was completed today. It feels good to accomplish things on my to-do list. My habit of procrastinating has been getting the best of me but I'm really trying to do better. Still behind on the Pagan Blog Project but determined to catch up before the end of the year. Getting back into my daily chanting. Gave myself a lunar month challenge; this month has 29 days.

As a solitary witch, all of my work is done alone anyway. It would be nice to work with others though.
